Team Karting is investing in a two seater go kart to enable disabled people to take part at the highly popular indoor circuit on Queensway in Rochdale.

A generous donation from Johnsons Tiles (www.johnson-tiles.com) and the commmitment of the Team Karting directors will allow even more people take part in karting events driving the specially designed two seater go kart.

Team Karting's Matty Street explained: "At Team Karting we pride ourselves on all the work we do for the community. We've hosted a charity endurance race with Kart Force; they are a racing team for injured service men and women using motorsport to rehabilitate and integrate back into the community. For the charity race we used hand controls which were specially manufactured to allow drivers who didn't have use of there legs to race.

"After this race we noticed the amount of people who would love to take part in karting but were unable to drive our conventional karts, so we started to look into more options.

"A few months ago I met someone very inspiring. His name is Jonathan, he's 24 and has cerebral palsy, resulting in him living his whole life in a wheelchair.

"Despite this Jonathan aspires to push the boundaries and defy all odds. He is aiming to drive a go kart and race around Team Karting's track.

"We set our sights on getting a two seater go kart and a hoist, to allow his goal to happen.

"Jonathan is a huge petrol head who refuses to let his disability stop his aspirations. Spending only an hour with him he motivated me to fight his corner and get him racing.

"Nicolas Hamilton (Lewis Hamilton's brother) has proved that disabled people can compete in a high level of motorsport very successfully. It's time this was reflected in the grassroots of motorsport as well.

"Every now and then, someone comes along who makes you think about things in a whole different way. These people are rule breakers who refuse to accept the 'way things are'. They challenge the accepted norms. They are so incredibly inspiring, they make you feel really very humble. Jonathan really is incredible; we at Team Karting are proud to have met him."

The first two seater go kart will be delivered to Team Karting on Friday (28 October).

TeamKarting has the longest all-tarmac indoor karting track in Greater Manchester. The karting track is 100% pure tarmac. You won't be slipping and sliding around on concrete like on lesser tracks.

It's the most challenging and the most exhilarating karting track in the North West. With its combination of high-speed straights, fast bends and technical chicanes, you will love the thrill of the chase.
