An opticians in Rochdale has raised over £1,350 in response to the Disasters Emergency Committee’s appeal to help the millions of Ukrainians fleeing the conflict, by offering MOTs for glasses, Ukrainian flag-coloured, handmade cupcakes and ribbon badges in return for cash donations.
After seeing the distress and devastation caused by the war in Ukraine, staff from the Specsavers store on Yorkshire Street were keen to show their support.
One member of staff manager, Suzanne Ridgeway, made ribbons in Ukrainian colours and Pre-Reg Optometrist, Zanib Ashraf, made and decorated cupcakes in blue and yellow. Together the activities generated £1,350.
Sarah Culshaw, store director at Specsavers Rochdale, said: “The war in Ukraine is just terrible, we felt so compelled to do all we could to raise funds for such a worthy cause. There are so many innocent people, including children, who haven’t got any basic supplies, so we all felt very strongly about doing our bit to support them.
“Thanks to our generous customers, we have raised so much more than our initial target.”
